Readnslate terms of use

Version 1.0, for Readnslate 1.0.1. Effective from 6 October 2026.

Who provides Readnslate

Readnslate is provided by Mikko Oskari Somerpalo, a solo developer based in Finland (EU), publishing as WhiteWSoft. Postal address available on request by email. Contact: readnslate.supp@hotmail.com.

Your licence to use the app

You may install and use Readnslate on your Android devices under these terms. This is a licence to use the app, not ownership of the app, and it gives you no rights to any book.

Readnslate is a reader for DRM-free EPUB and text-based PDF files you have the right to read, for example books you bought without DRM or public-domain books. It requires Android 11 or later. You are responsible for having the right to read the books you import.

Free and Readnslate Plus

Free includes unlimited word and passage translation with Google ML Kit on your device, English definitions from the bundled dictionary, pronunciation through Android text-to-speech, Saved Words, Anki TSV export, manual backup, and all reading modes. There are no ads and no account.

Readnslate Plus is a one-time purchase through Google Play, not a subscription. It unlocks Plus for the Google Play account that bought it and can be restored on that account. Plus adds Enhanced offline translation packs (Mozilla Bergamot models for 17 language directions), Whole paragraph (a paragraph's translation shown right under it in an EPUB), and premium themes. The price is shown in Google Play. Enhanced translation needs a 64-bit ARM device; where a device cannot run it, the app says so and does not offer Plus or the trial.

The seven-day trial

The free seven-day trial includes everything in Plus. It starts only when you choose "Try Plus free for 7 days" in the app; nothing starts automatically, and it does not turn into a purchase. When the trial ends, Plus features lock unless you buy Plus. Downloaded Enhanced packs stay on your device for seven more days but cannot be used; buying Plus in that time makes them available again, otherwise they are deleted. Enhanced packs cannot be downloaded without Plus or an active trial.

Payments, refunds and restoring a purchase

Google Play handles payment, receipts and refunds under its own terms and policies, and your statutory withdrawal and refund rights apply. Readnslate never receives your card details.

A purchase can be restored through Google Play after you clear the app's storage or reinstall: open the Readnslate Plus page and choose Restore purchase while connected. Manual backups do not contain purchases or entitlement data. If Google Play reports no purchase for the account in use, the app keeps Plus for at least a day and asks you to switch back to the buying account; a refund or revocation reported by Google Play ends Plus at once.

Updates to the app and to Plus

Readnslate Plus is digital content delivered as part of the app. We provide the security updates, and the other updates, needed to keep Readnslate and the Plus features working as described in these terms and on this website for a reasonable period after your purchase, and for as long as applicable consumer law requires. Updates are delivered as new versions of Readnslate through Google Play; we explain in the update notes what an update changes and whether it needs a newer Android version. Please install security updates promptly. New optional features may be added separately; their arrival does not reduce your right to the necessary updates or to the remedies the law gives you if the content does not work as described.

Support period. Necessary fixes and security updates for Readnslate are provided for a reasonable period, taking into account the kind of software it is and what you can reasonably expect, and at least for as long as applicable law requires. These obligations are not reduced by the fact that Plus is a one-time purchase, and they cannot be disclaimed. If we ever plan to end security support for a version of Readnslate, we will say so on this page well in advance and before any purchase made after that announcement.

We may update Readnslate, including adding, changing or removing features. Features you paid for as part of Plus are not removed without good reason, such as a legal requirement, a change in Android or Google Play that makes them impossible, or a third-party component becoming unavailable, and never in a way that reduces the rights described above.

Open-source components

Readnslate includes open-source software and translation models, for example the Mozilla Bergamot runtime and models under the Mozilla Public License 2.0, the Readium EPUB engine, Princeton WordNet and a rebuild of the AndroidX PDF viewer. These components are licensed under their own terms, listed in the app under Help & About › Licenses and on the Licences page; the source code of the MPL-covered translation runtime is offered on the Source page. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under those licences.

Local data and network use

Readnslate is local-first, not zero-network. The privacy policy explains which components can use the network and why. There is no Readnslate account, cloud sync or server.

Keep your original books and any manual backups you need. Backups do not include the book files, and Readnslate does not encrypt backups or TSV exports. Clearing the app's storage or uninstalling removes the app's local data; there is no Readnslate server copy to recover from.

Translation accuracy

Machine translation can be wrong or leave meaning out, and dictionary definitions are general English senses, not advice about a particular text. We do not guarantee the accuracy of a translation or definition. Check the original text before relying on one.

Limits on responsibility

To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for losses that we could not reasonably foresee when you accepted these terms, or that result from books, files, devices or services outside our control. Nothing in these terms removes or limits mandatory consumer rights, the update and conformity rights described above, or any responsibility that the law does not allow us to limit.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The current version and its date are always published at this address, and a material change is also mentioned in the app's update notes. Changes do not reduce the rights you already have for a purchase you made before the change.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Finland. If you are a consumer living elsewhere, you also keep the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of your country of residence, and you may bring a claim in its courts.
