Readnslate support
Need help? Start with the FAQ, or email readnslate.supp@hotmail.com. Support is email only; there is no phone support and no contact form. In the app, Help & About › Contact support opens your email app with the address filled in and nothing attached.
What to include in your email
Please include your Readnslate version (Help & About shows it), your Android version and device, whether the book is an EPUB or a PDF and which language you read and translate into, and the steps that led to the problem. Say what happened and what you expected instead. A screenshot helps when the problem is visible.
Do not send passwords, payment details, purchase tokens, book files or backups. For a purchase problem, the Google Play order number is enough.
Getting books in
Tap Add books in the Library. Android's file picker opens in your Downloads folder, showing EPUB and PDF files; tap one, or long-press to select several. A book downloaded in your browser can also be opened with Readnslate from the browser's download list, or shared to Readnslate. The file is copied into the app's private storage and the original stays where it was. Readnslate reads DRM-free EPUB and text-based PDF files only, on Android 11 or later.
If a file can't be opened, the app says why: DRM-protected, password-protected, damaged (a download that stopped early is the usual cause), not an EPUB or PDF, or larger than Readnslate supports. Download it again, or try another edition. The app's Find free books list links to public-domain libraries by language.
Translation, Plus and the trial
Standard translation (Free) uses Google ML Kit on your device. The languages it needs download by themselves: after you choose your languages when the app first opens, and when you open a book in a new language. Downloads wait for Wi-Fi unless you turn Wi-Fi only off in Translation Packs or tap Download now; a word tapped meanwhile shows "Preparing… one moment" and fills in when the language is ready. Enhanced translation (Readnslate Plus or its 7-day trial) uses Mozilla Bergamot packs delivered through Google Play, so the app must be installed from Google Play and online to download a pack. Enhanced needs a 64-bit ARM device; where a device can't run it, the app says so and Plus isn't offered.
The trial starts only when you tap Try Plus free for 7 days on the Readnslate Plus page (the star). When it ends, Plus features lock unless you buy Plus; downloaded Enhanced packs stay, unusable, for seven more days and are then deleted. Plus is a one-time purchase, not a subscription.
Restoring a purchase: use the Google Play account that bought Plus, open the Readnslate Plus page and tap Restore purchase while online. Backups don't carry purchases. If Google Play reports no purchase for the account in use, the app keeps Plus for at least a day and asks you to switch back to the buying account. Google Play handles payments, receipts and refunds.
Your data
Manual backups (Settings › Backup & restore) contain your library records, Saved Words, lookup history and settings, but not the book files, purchases or Enhanced packs. Keep your original books separately. You choose where a backup or an Anki export is saved; Readnslate does not encrypt them. Android's automatic backup and device transfer are off for this app, and there is no Readnslate server copy.
Removing a book deletes the app's copy and keeps its words and position unless you tick "Also erase saved data from this book". Clearing the app's storage or uninstalling removes all local data, including trial and purchase records; a purchase can be restored through Google Play. The privacy policy has the full picture.
FAQ
The same ten questions and answers as the FAQ in the app (Help & About › FAQ, Readnslate 1.0.1), word for word.
Why isn't a translation perfect?
Translations are made by machine translation on your device, so they can be wrong, especially with idioms, names, jokes and poetry. Offline packs have to be small enough to fit on a phone, and that limits their quality by design; nothing is made wrong on purpose. With Readnslate Plus, tap ⟳ in the lookup card to compare the Enhanced and Standard versions. When it matters, always check the original.
Why does tapping a word do nothing?
The first time you read in a language, Readnslate downloads it for Standard translation, which takes a moment. The card says “Preparing… one moment” and fills in when the language is ready. With Wi-Fi only on and no Wi-Fi, the card offers Download now instead. If no card opens at all, you may have tapped a picture or an empty space, or the page is a scanned image (see the PDF question). Translation Packs, in Settings, shows what is downloaded.
Why can't I tap words in this PDF?
Readnslate needs real text in the PDF. A scanned book is only pictures of its pages, and Readnslate has no text recognition (OCR). A PDF with DRM or a password can't be opened at all, and Readnslate does not remove either. Try a text-based PDF, or an EPUB of the same book.
How do I add books?
Tap Add books in the Library. It opens your Downloads, where you pick EPUB or PDF files; long-press to pick several. In a browser or a file manager you can also choose Open with (or Share) and pick Readnslate. Nothing to read yet? Find free books, in Help & About, lists public-domain libraries by language.
Enhanced isn't available on my device. Why?
Enhanced translation runs a larger translation engine on your device, and that engine needs a 64-bit ARM processor. Most phones and tablets have one; some older devices, x86 tablets and emulators don't. Enhanced packs also download through Google Play, so the app has to be installed from Google Play, and they exist for certain language pairs only (Translation Packs lists them). Where Enhanced can't run, the app says so and doesn't offer Plus. Standard translation works as usual.
How do I get Plus back on a new phone?
Use the same Google account that bought Plus, and install Readnslate from Google Play. Plus comes back by itself when the app opens online; there is nothing to buy again. If it doesn't appear, open the Readnslate Plus page (the star) and tap Restore purchase. A backup doesn't carry your purchase; Google Play does.
Can I get a refund?
Refunds go through Google Play, which takes the payment: ask for one from your order history in Google Play. Your statutory consumer rights are not affected. If something you paid for doesn't work, please contact support as well, and don't buy again while a purchase is pending or unclear.
Where are my books and words, and how do I back them up?
They stay on your device, in the app's own storage. There is no Readnslate account and no Readnslate server. Settings › Backup & restore saves a backup file, wherever you choose, with your library list, reading positions, Saved Words, lookup history and settings. It does not include the book files, downloaded languages or your purchase, so keep your original EPUB and PDF files. Android's automatic backup is off for Readnslate: uninstalling, or clearing the app's storage, deletes whatever you haven't backed up.
Does Readnslate collect my data?
Readnslate has no account, no ads and no analytics of its own, and no server: your books and Saved Words stay on your device. It is local-first, not zero-network. Google's on-device translation (ML Kit) downloads languages and can send Google technical data, such as installation identifiers, device and app information, the languages you chose and usage and performance metrics. Google Play delivers Enhanced packs and handles purchases. The privacy policy has the details.
How do I contact support?
Email readnslate.supp@hotmail.com, or tap Contact support in Help & About: it opens your email app with the address filled in and nothing attached. Say what you did, what happened and what you expected, your device and Android version, and whether the book is an EPUB or a PDF. Please don't send passwords, payment details, book files or backups.

How do I fit a PDF to the screen?
A PDF opens fitted to the screen width. In Pages mode each page fits the whole screen: double tap to zoom in, and double tap again to return to the whole page. Pinch to zoom and drag to pan; a page never gets smaller than the whole page on screen. When zoomed, the lock at the bottom right holds your horizontal position while you scroll vertically. Your PDF file is never changed.
Which reading mode should I choose?
Pages: tap the sides or swipe to turn pages; a PDF page fits the screen and slides in from the side, and double tap zooms in or back to the whole page. Vertical scrolling: swipe up or down. New EPUBs open in Pages and new PDFs in Vertical scrolling; each format keeps the mode you choose. Reflowable EPUB scrolling stays inside each chapter, even when you swipe sideways: a Next card appears at the chapter's end, and a Previous card when you scroll or pull down at its very top. A short chapter that fits on the screen shows its cards straight away. The contents button in the toolbar lists chapters. Fixed-layout EPUB keeps the reader engine's page layout rather than forced reflow.
Can I hide every reading control?
Yes. Tap the top-right or bottom-right corner of the page to hide the toolbars, and tap it again to bring them back. Immersive reading in Reader Settings also hides the system bars. Android Back reveals hidden controls, and chapter cards still appear at chapter ends.
Where are the reading controls?
Tap the top-right or bottom-right corner to show or hide the controls, and the bottom-left corner to switch between night and day (True Black for night, your last light theme for day). A word in a corner still opens its meaning. Android Back also reveals hidden controls. In Pages mode, tap the sides to turn pages. With TalkBack, the corner buttons offer both actions. The Quick guide repeats this.
What works offline?
Imported books, Saved Words, English definitions and downloaded translation languages work locally without a Readnslate account. Standard languages download by themselves the first time you need them, over Wi-Fi unless you turn Wi-Fi only off in Translation Packs; after that they translate offline. Google ML Kit can still contact Google for model/configuration updates and technical telemetry when connected; this is not a zero-network promise.
What does Add definition do?
It adds a short English definition to the existing result without discarding the translation. These are general WordNet dictionary entries, not contextual AI. Definitions currently cover English only. Translation supports other downloaded language pairs.
How does the Readnslate Plus trial work?
Word and passage translation, English definitions, pronunciation and Saved Words are free, with no daily limits. The optional 7-day trial starts only when you choose Try Plus free for 7 days on the Readnslate Plus page (the star). It includes everything in Plus: Enhanced offline translation of words and passages with downloaded packs, Whole paragraph in EPUB books, and the premium themes. When it ends, Plus features lock unless you buy Plus, and an expired trial can't restart.
What does Readnslate Plus add?
Plus is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. It adds Enhanced offline translation with downloadable language packs, used for words and passages when Plus is active; Whole paragraph, which shows an EPUB paragraph's translation right under it; and premium themes. Free keeps unmetered Standard translation, English definitions, pronunciation, Saved Words, export and backup. There are no ads.
Why can I not hear pronunciation?
Install a compatible offline voice in Android text-to-speech settings. The two speaker actions pronounce the source and translated text in their respective languages. Availability and pronunciation quality depend on your installed voice engine.
How do Saved Words and Anki export work?
Tap Save word in a lookup to add it to Saved Words. There is no word limit in Free or Plus. Edit meanings, return to their source passages, or export a UTF-8 TSV file for Anki. Export is not synchronization. Follow the in-app guide and preserve existing notes on reimport to keep Anki edits. Readnslate is not affiliated with Anki. Earlier Learning and Known entries become Saved Words; legacy History and Ignored records remain in your data backup.
How do I protect or delete my data?
Make manual data backups and keep original books separately. Android automatic backup/device transfer are disabled. Manual backups do not include books, models, voices, purchases or trial state, and are not encrypted by this app. Removing a word from Saved Words retains its lookup history in backups. To erase a book's retained words, remove the book with the erase-data option. Clearing Android app storage deletes all local records but not exported copies or Play purchases.
How do I remove translation packs?
Open Translation Packs. Remove an Enhanced pack under Downloaded packs, or the Standard languages under Standard Options. A Standard language may be shared by several language pairs; removing it makes those pairs unavailable offline until downloaded again, and a language you removed is not downloaded again by itself: download it from Translation Packs when you want it back. Android speech voices are managed separately in Android text-to-speech settings.
What if a file is missing, or my position did not save?
Imported books are copied into private app storage and positions save automatically while reading and when leaving the reader. Keep the original document separately. If a document provider refuses access during import, choose the file again and allow access in Android's file picker. If a saved book becomes unavailable, reimport the identical original to reconnect retained saved data and position. Check free storage if the reader reports a position-saving error; do not clear app storage as a first troubleshooting step.
